is an eco-friendly brand founded in 2013 by Hideyuki Kasuga, Ph.D. in Engineering. To date, the brand has been creating eco-friendly materials and products with a focus on the environment and resources.
The newly developed "TRANSWOOD" is a new material composed of equal parts "Prasus®," a biomass resin made from waste cooking oil and other sources, and thinned cedar wood.
It is lightweight and resistant to cracking, and because it is made of wood, each piece has a unique, soft appearance.
This material was used to create a line of sustainable tableware called the "Retowa Collection."
"Retowa" is a French word meaning "three" in Japanese.
The tableware collection consists of three types: large plates, medium plates, and bowls.
Their diameters are 27 cm, 21 cm, and 15 cm, respectively.
The decision to keep the number of pieces to a minimum is rooted in the concept of an “environmentally and user-friendly style” that helps reduce water and energy consumption and lightens the burden on users.
By using “TRANSWOOD” material, these pieces can be reshaped and recycled.
This eco-friendly tableware was designed by architect Kengo Kuma.
The gently curved edges and textured surface of the plates evoke a sense of "Japanese tradition" while expressing a beauty that resonates globally.
The "Retwa Collection" is lighter than ceramic tableware, yet more substantial and easier to handle than wooden or paper plates. It’s perfect for outdoor dining occasions such as glamping or garden terraces.
