Mitsui Chemicals Co-Hosts "Transwood® with Prasus® Exhibition Vol. 01: The Future of Environmentally Harmonious Materials"

(Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Hideyuki Kasuga) will co-host an exhibition of eco-friendly materials titled “TRANSWOOD® with Prasus® Exhibition Vol. 01 -The Future of Environmentally Friendly Materials-," in collaboration with Mitsui Chemicals, Inc. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Osamu Hashimoto). The exhibition will be held from Friday, November 1, 2024, to Friday, January 31, 2025, at the "hide k 1896 Flagship Store" (Shibuya-ku, Tokyo). In addition to the materials themselves, the exhibition will feature various products and prototypes made from "TRANSWOOD® with Prasus®."

■TRANSWOOD® with Prasus®

: A 100-Year-Cycle All-Bio Composite Material TRANSWOOD® is an eco-friendly material brand developed by Hideyuki Kasuga (Ph.D. in Engineering) based on the concept of a “material that lasts 100 years.”TRANSWOOD® is a composite material made by blending “wood-derived materials”—such as wood flour from thinned timber and CMF (cellulose microfiber)—with [Prasus®], a mass-balanced biomass resin produced from waste cooking oil and other sources. This material reduces CO2 emissions and plastic usage during the manufacturing process and is recyclable.Starting with its application in tableware for the eco-friendly lifestyle brand “hide k 1896” in 2023, development and application are currently underway across a wide range of categories, including furniture, building materials, home appliance casings, and automotive interior parts.

■Prasus®

Biomass Resin Using a Mass Balance Method Capable of Reducing GHG Emissions by Approximately 60%*
Prasus®, manufactured by Prime Polymer Co., Ltd. (a member of the Mitsui Chemicals Group), is a biomass resin brand produced using a mass balance method that enables domestic manufacturing and a stable supply, and can reduce GHG (greenhouse gas) emissions by approximately 60% compared to petroleum-based resins. Traceability is guaranteed through ISCC PLUS certification.
*The amount of CO2 calculated based on the biomass-derived carbon allocated via the mass balance method is considered the CO2 absorption capacity of the product.
